Grand Domaine (1400m -
2550m)
Tarentaise Valley | Savoie Mont Blanc | France
Altitude 1.400 - 2.550 mThe ski area Grand Domaine with its two major ski resorts Valmorel and Saint Francois Longchamp has a wonderful panoramic view and is situated at the bottom of the Col de la Madeleine. It offers a broad variety of ski slopes and has 165 kilometres in total. Most of the 85 ski runs are easy or medium and there is an area especially for beginners. More experienced skiers find a lot of ski slopes at the Col du Gollet and at the Col du Mottet, a real challenge is the deep powder snow run at the steep hill of Lauzière. The ski area Grand Domaine has 154 ski lifts, open from mid of December until mid of April. Grand Domaine offers 60 km of prepared cross-country ski runs. The „Funpark SnowZone“ is a paradise for snowboarders.
Indeed, the family friendly ski station Valmorel was built in the 1970s, but it was built in an authentic way. So Valmorel has a mountain character and offers all amenities of a modern ski station. The same is to say of St. François-Longchamp, the second ski station in the ski area Grand Domaine, which is situated between 1.400 and 2.500 metres above sealevel. The centre of Valmorel is pedestrian zone. Apart from skiing you can do a lot more: 60 kilometres of marked winter- and snow shoe hiking trails, ice skating rink, toboggan run, horse- and dog sleigh tours, paragliding or ice cataract climbing, night ski slopes and night toboggan run. Of course you can do excellent aprés-ski in one of the bars, pubs and restaurants.
