Valloire/Valmeinier (1430m -
2600m)
Savoie | France
Altitude 1430 - 2600m
This ski area was only established in the 1980s and is therefore the „youngest ski area in the Alps”. Three valleys are connected and offer a lot of snow fun with 88 ski slopes and 150 ski lifts in total. This ski area has two advantages – first it lies on a sunny location and second nearly three quarters of all ski slopes lie higher than 2000 m which makes them rather snow secure. This ski area not only offers deep powder snow runs but has a special for the youngest guests, too. No ski pass fee for kids younger than 5 and good ski kindergarten and ski schools. For non-skiers the region offers 20 km of winter hiking trails and snow shoe trails. There are dog sledge runs and toboggan runs. The villages of Valloire and Valmeinier have a good choice of restaurants, bars, shops and cinemas. Valmeinier 1500 has conserved its charme of a mountain village with old stone houses. Valmeinier 1800 was newly built but in a traditional way with timber and stone. Most buildings are situated round the ski lift station so that you can ski back right to the cafés. The third village Valloire is situated on 1430 m of altitude at the bottom of the Col du Galibier.
